Our first rehearsal for the Syzygy recording next month went extremely well. Ryan and Lauren had a few questions about some attacks and dynamics. We rehearsed for about an hour and left feeling confident and excited about the project.
I always feel a bit odd when asked a serious technical or interpretive question about my music, seeming distant to the one asking. I do, however, give their question careful consideration and usually have a satisfactory answer. A composer must be able to communicate with musicians. I think the trepidation comes from composers trying their hardest to put all necessary directions into the score so that the composer’s presence is not required for the interpretation of the music. We (composers) cannot be everywhere to give performers direction should we be so fortunate as to have musicians playing our music in different cities. With any luck, our scores will outlive us and inspire the musicians of the future.
All five movements are in really good shape. Enjoy the preview!
